WattStopper Vice President Sales and Marketing Jim Young proudly announced that the company is a key sponsor of the newly formed Rocky Mountain Lighting Academy (RMLA). The RMLA, an extension of the highly regarded lighting education program at the University of Colorado (CU), will provide continuing education to professionals working in the lighting industry beginning in the summer of 2013.

Young commented, "With the proliferation of new technologies, and the importance of lighting to sustainable building design, a specialized education is more important than ever before. I'm very pleased that WattStopper is able to sponsor a program that not only helps lighting professionals with their continuing education, but also supports CU's exceptional undergraduate program."

The inaugural RMLA program is an intensive four-day course scheduled for June 18-21, 2013, on the CU-Boulder campus. The curriculum, taught by renowned educational and lighting professionals, will provide a solid theoretical background in lighting. Course learning goals are informed by recent developments in science, technology, energy conservation, and public expectations. Students will enjoy a mix of lecture, demonstration, laboratory work, computer exercises, and group discussion and problem solving.

WattStopper is a Silver Partner, which includes a three-year commitment to funding the new program. For more information on CU's Rocky Mountain Lighting Academy, visit rmla.colorado.edu.

Supporting the RMLA is another example of WattStopper's continuing commitment to industry education. In 2011 the company helped the University of California at Davis endow the Arthur H. Rosenfeld Chair in Energy Efficiency to recognize and support an exceptional member of the energy efficiency faculty. The chair holder promotes the Energy Efficiency Center's mission to accelerate the commercialization of energy-efficiency technologies, teach future leaders in energy efficiency, and conduct critical policy-supporting research. Previously, WattStopper endowed a graduate fellowship to support a new UC Davis Master of Science in Engineering program. The fellowship assists outstanding students in the study and research of lighting controls. WattStopper also offers its own series of accredited continuing education courses for lighting professionals.
