BASF sponsored and participated in the 2014 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) World Congress, April 8-10, at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan. BASF contributed to a number of presentations at the 2014 SAE World Congress.

In the "Advanced Emission Components and Systems for Gasoline Vehicles" session, Dinh Dang, Application Engineer, BASF Corporation, was a co-author of the Investigation of a Catalyst & Engine Management Solution to Meet LEV III - SULEV with Reduced PGM presentation, which was be given.

Also in that session, Stephen Johnson, Application Engineer, BASF Corporation, presented Optimum Zone Ratio For Improving Hydrocarbon Lightoff Without Increased PGM Costs.

Timothy S. December, Group Leader, BASF Corporation, and Donald Campbell, Group Leader, BASF Corporation presented Building Durable Scratch Resistance in Automotive Clearcoats in the "Advances in Coating and Paints" session.

Emre Kurtoglu, Ph.D., R&D Manager, Global Structural Materials Research at BASF Corporation, discussed Bio-based Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) from BASF in the "LCA and Sustainable Materials/Manufacturing" session.

In the "Modeling and Simulation Technology for Composite Materials" session, Marios Lambi, Application Development and Computer Aided Engineering Manager, BASF Corporation, presented Thermoplastic Lightweight Design Trends and Simulation Challenges in the Automotive Industry.

BASF also moderated Structural Plastic Composite Components — Pathway to Adoption — Role of Collaboration/Consortiumat this year's World Congress. Organized by Marianne Morgan, Automotive Industry Liaison Manager, BASF Corporation, the session highlighted OEM perspectives, technology pathways gaps and gap analysis, consortium /government projects, enabling technologies and new business models. The session concluded with a panel discussion on pathways to enable the automotive industry to meet required cost, weight, assembly needs with a focus on collaboration and partnerships as a critical element.
